Surprise and delight as Becky accepts award

BARNT Green runner Becky Straw is hoping to build on an excellent last year.
The 17-year-old received The Advertiser’s Sports Personality of the year award after she topped an online vote over Christmas and January.
She won a number of titles in 2012, with the highlight the 1,500 metres at the English Schools Championships.
“I did not even realise until January I was in the short list for the award, so to win it was brilliant,” she said. “It’s great to know people are supporting you.”
Straw, who joined Birchfield Harriers last year, is currently nursing a suspected sprained foot but expects to be in action soon.
