TENNIS PROMOTION-chasing Bromsgrove Ladies G bagged a winning draw over Droitwich E in a crucial match.
In a hard-fought contest, Bromsgrove saw off their opponents 5-4.
Lorraine Russell and Anne Simper lost to the Droitwich first pair 6-4, 6-4 but defeated the second pair 6-3, 6-3.
Yvonne Priestman and Lisa Rushton then beat the Droitwich second pair 7-5, 6-0.
They had a long three set game against the Droitwich first pair but lost 6-4, 1-6, 3-6, but winning the extra set gave Bromsgrove the victory they needed.
The men’s D team boosted their relegation battle by edging out Bewdley 6-4.
Bromsgrove’s first pair John Casey and Tim Wright beat Steve Williams and Alistair Carter 6-2, 6-4, while Alan Colley and Mark Blake got the better of Pete Mauger and Andy Minchin 6-1, 6-3 to lead 2-0 at the break.
Bewdley came to life in the reverse rubbers with Casey and Wright losing 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 to Mauger and Minchin, while Colley and Blake went down 3-6, 7-6, 3-6 to Williams and Carter.
Casey said: “I’m pleased we got the extra point by winning more sets but could do with an outright win in our final match at Belbroughton on Sunday to ensure we stay up.”
The men’s E team did not fare so well in their match against Cutnall Green C and are looking at relegation unless they can finish the winter season with some victories.
First pair Chris Hands and Jack Walters lost both their matches 7-6, 7-5 and 6-4, 7-5, while second pair Pete Morris and Tom Andrews also lost.
