FAIRFIELD Villa go into Saturday's Midland Combination Division One opener at Newhall United on the back of a goal glut.

Having squandered a host of chances in last Thursday's 3-0 defeat by Greenhill, Villa were back to their free-scoring best against Enville on Saturday, running out 6-0 winners.

Duncan Tye hit a brace while James Burke, Stuart Hall, Dave Rousell and Stephen Morgan were also on the scoresheet.

Manager Paul Oakes couldn't hide his relief after his strikers put their temporary loss of form to bed.

He said: "We created an unbelievable amount of chances (against Greenhill) but I don't know what our strikers did with their shooting boots.

"It was a bit of a wake-up call for the lads having done so well in pre-season, but we put it right on Saturday."

Oakes expects to have a full squad of 20 players available for Saturday's big kick off and was set to put the finishing touches to his starting eleven after last night's friendly with Bromsgrove General.

However, the club have failed to agree terms with former Pilkington centre-back Martin Keight.

Oakes added: "There are a couple of either-ors to iron out but I have got a good idea who is in my starting eleven."

After facing Newhall, Villa have another away fixture at Northfield Town on Tuesday August 12, before hosting Bereton Social on Saturday August 16.
