BROMSGROVE Rovers' development both on and off the field has been recognised, after the club achieved the Football Association's Charter Standard status.

To achieve Charter Standard status, clubs must meet a set of criteria involving standards of coaching and commitment to providing opportunities to young people.

The scheme was launched in February 2001, and is a core component of the FA's Football Development Programme.

The project is aimed at all clubs outside the Football League and Premier League, for players children and parents to find a club in their local area that meets FA standards.

Chairman Tom Herbert and president Charlie Poole, who has been involved with the club for 62 years, were presented with the Charter Standard plaque by Worcestershire FA company secretary Mervyn Leggett at half-time during Saturday's 1-0 win over Clevedon Town.

Herbert said: "It is the first time in the club's history that we have achieved this.

"It is another string to the club, and we are moving forward."

Leggett praised the club's involvement in youth football, which has included the staging of two half-term soccer weeks, the introduction of an under-13s side and a link-up with NEW College.

He said: "They have worked very hard over the last 12 months developing the community side of the club and embracing the youth football section."
