Spa club makes a splash
DROITWICH Dolphins Swimming Club made a splash when they won the first round of the Nuneaton and District Junior Swimming League.
Their opposition, when they visited Bromsgrove's Dolphin Centre for Saturday's event, were Stafford Apex, Brierley Hill, Northampton B', Evesham, and Bromsgrove.
This was considered to be the most competitive draw of the first round, but the Dolphins' 33 strong squad, managed by Alison Whiteman, Lynne West, and Amy Piper, proved too good for their opponents.
There were many great swims throughout the event with Dolphins' swimmers finishing in the top three positions in 36 of the 51 events, and the majority of the swimmers achieving personal best times.
First places were taken in individual events by Ruth Hadley in the 10 years 50m breaststroke and the 25m butterfly, Jack Vaughan in the 12 years 50m butterfly, Sam Cave in the 10 years 25m butterfly, and Anthony Redfern in the 11 years 50m freestyle.
In the relay events, first places were taken by Olivia Richards (backstroke), Lauren Rogers (breaststroke), Ruth Hadley (butterfly), and Sophie Groves (freestyle) in the 10 years 100m medley Relay, Alice O'Toole (backstroke), Laura Cadwell (breaststroke), Clodagh Lodge (butterfly), and Jasmine Godfrey-Hunt (freestyle) in the 12 years 100m medley relay, Matthew Osbourne, Robert Llewellyn, Dan Hartwright, and Jack Vaughn in the 100m freestyle relay, and Robert Llewellyn (backstroke), Ryan Holmes (breaststroke), Jack Vaughan (butterfly) and Matthew Osbourne (freestyle), in the 100m medley relay.
Overall results: Droitwich Dolphins - 202 points, Brierley Hill - 196 points, Evesham - 192 points, Stafford Apex - 191 points, Bromsgrove - 142 points, Northampton B' - 127 points.
