ERROR-riddled Bromsgrove allowed this game to slip from their grasp as they struggled to cope with the dreadful wet weather conditions.
Darlington played with more control and made less errors, which was to prove the difference between the sides.
Too often, Bromsgrove were guilty of spilling the ball when in contact, while suffering too many turnovers.
Bromsgrove did manage to reduce their yellow card count down to just one when Bobby Green was sidelined for 10 minutes midway through the second half, but the fact remains they still have the worst disciplinary record in the league.
Although Bromsgrove began the game on top, they couldn’t capitalise when John Critchlow was off target with a penalty attempt.
But after their early efforts subsided, Bromsgrove hardly got out of their own territory for the rest of the half.
Darlington duly built a 10-0 lead by the break, hooker Junior Suluga-Fagilio scoring a well deserved try which Grant Connor converted and then kicked a penalty.
Bromsgrove were the better side early in the second half and camped themselves on Darlington’s line where Bobby Green finally broke through to score.
However, the hoped for revival never materialised and it seemed the harder Bromsgrove tried, the more mistakes they made.
Darlington appeared more assured when they had the ball and when Green was yellow carded, Connor made them pay by kicking another penalty, giving them a two score cushion which they never relinquished.
Bromsgrove must cut out the basic errors when they visit high-flying Sheffield Tigers this Saturday before second placed Hull Ionians visit Finstall Park the following week.
