A DRAG racer from Bromsgrove will be burning rubber at the Shakespeare County Raceway near Stratford this weekend.

Steve Cowling will be testing his 1972 MG Midget against a whole host of racing machines as part of the race weekend organised by Practical Performance Car Magazine.

Cowling bought the MG from a neighbour in 1997 and can often be found at the raceway pushing his British sports car to the limits.

Powered by one of British Leyland’s finest; a 1310cc A Series engine coupled with a bolt-on Garrett Turbocharger and fed by nitrous oxide injection for an instant kick of 250 bhp on the track, his yellow racer is good for 12.70 second quarter-mile blasts at 107 mph.

A lot of other like minded petrol heads with something to prove will also be in action in Stratford and the weekend is open to all car and motorcycle owners to come along and race.

The gates open at 8am and the track opens from 10am.
