BROMSGROVE Sporting are set to learn today how long injured midfield dynamo Luke Dugmore will be out for.

The attacker was taken off with a suspected broken fibula during Saturday’s Midland Combination Premier clash against Bolehall Swifts, which was drawn 1-1.

He was rushed to the Alexandra Hospital’s accident and emergency department in Redditch by Sporting chairman John Teece.

Despite Saturday’s worrying incident, manager Keith Draper is hoping the break was not as bad as first thought.

The player and club were set to learn the the full extent of the damage after assessment at the hospital this morning.

He said: “It was a clean break so I am hopeful Luke may be only out for six weeks.

“Even though you could tell it was a broken leg from the start, he coped with it well, he was calm even though he was in pain.

“I’ve heard players scream in agony and Luke never did that.

“It’s a terrible loss for us, I’ve known Luke since he was a lad and I have spent seven years trying to sign him and I feel for him because it’s terrible luck.”

Draper was also unwilling to point the finger at Bolehall’s Lee Millard, who caught the luckless Dugmore with a tackle from behind.

The defender was yellow carded after the incident and was taken off after 32 minutes.

The manager added: “There has been a lot of anger after the incident but I have to admit I am not angry at the lad.

“It was a tackle from behind which is of course illegal in the game now but it was unlucky because Luke’s foot was on the ground.”

The Rouslers had to recover from the double setback of losing Dugmore early on as well as James Turk before the game because of family committments.

And Draper was delighted by the response as they made it seven games unbeaten.

“Understandably, the players were affected by Luke’s injury so to get a result was fantastic.

“We would like to have won but under the circumstances it was a good point.

“We’re in our first season in the Premier Division and our unbeaten in seven games.”

Sporting are hoping to add at least one new player before Saturday’s league trip to Southam.
