HOCKEY: Droitwich Spa men kicked-off the Midlands Division One with a hard-fought 3-3 draw at Whitchurch.
The game started with Spa looking rusty as Whitchurch had the better of the opening exchanges, however, it was the away side who opened the scoring with a well-taken goal from Craig Timmis.
The hosts hit back with a quick equaliser and then scored a second with minutes to go before half-time.
Lee Wakelam brought Spa level in the second-half with a clever finish over the keeper before Timmis scored his second to take them ahead.
Spa could not maintain their lead as Whitchurch drew level again.
Spa are at home to Stafford in the league on Saturday.
The seconds went down 4-3 to Streetly fourths. Pete Penderville, captain Nick Bates and Barry Williams scored for Spa.
