SCOTT Kirby got Droitwich Amateur Boxing Club’s season off to a sensational start by winning the West Midlands Senior Novice welterweight title.

The 22-year-old claimed victory after easily outpointing Cameron Fiaz in Telford.

Both boxers made cautious starts, it was soon clear that Kirby was throwing the more accurate and sharper punches.

As the bout progressed, Kirby’s superiority became more pronounced.

The Shropshire boxer had a final fling early in the third round but Kirby weathered the storm the Droitwich fighter demonstrated some delightful skills to finish on top.

Droitwich ABC stage their first show of the season on October 19 at the Chateau Impney Hotel.

The event is a dinner tournament with proceeds going towards the club’s New Building Appeal.

Organisers are hoping the evening will consist of eight to 10 bouts where local boxers Michael ‘Buller’ Pardoe, Aaron Beckford, Anthony Badams, Shawn Hewlett, Harry Butler and Mikey O’Toole are all in line to feature.
