DOUGIE Brown hailed his Barnt Green players as they produced their best display of the season with a nine-wicket win over Himley.

The Green success also put an end to Himley’s title hopes in the Birmingham and District League Premier Division.

Asked to field first, bowlers Andrew Sutton (4-36), Brown (2-60) and Stephen Bevan (2-34) proved to be too strong for Himley’s batting order restricting them to 186-8.

Only Greg Wright (47) and Ben Smith (58 not out) made any runs for Himley.

James Ord then kept up his fine form this season as he struck an unbeaten 102 and was well-supported by Nathan Newport (22) and Tom Burton (61no) as Green reached 190-1.

“It was a fantastic display,” said Brown. “We were excellent and it shows what we can do.

“We’ve struggled to put performances together when the weather has made games disjointed.

“Our bowlers did really well and then James Ord did what he has done all season — score runs.

“He’s someone who has always been good but James has found a new level this summer and has been incredible.”

Green go into their final game of the season at relegated Wellington on Saturday (noon start) with an outside chance of a top-five finish.

Brown misses the game as he will be working for Warwickshire in their Cydesdale Bank 40 final at Lord’s against Hampshire on Saturday, so Adam Smith will take the reins.
