JOINT boss Paul Oakes has taken swift action to add some more cut and thrust to Fairfield Villa by swooping for four players in reaction to Saturday’s exit from the President’s Cup.

Oakes has tabled seven day approaches for Bromsgrove Sporting pair Pete Jenvey and Jordan Street, while also making a move for Feckenham’s Chris Glover.

Villa also want to bring back former hitman Stuart Hall, who is currently playing at Earlswood.

The club are hopeful to have several of their targets in place before Saturday’s Midland Combination Division One clash against Coton Green.

Oakes admits the move is a reaction to the weekend’s 3-1 loss to Hampton.

He said: “We lost to Knowle last week but the performance was good and we just did not take our chances.

“But on Saturday we were out played and Hampton deserved to win the match.

“We’ve got a few players missing but that’s no excuse, the performance was unacceptable, so we’ve decided to try and move quickly.

“I’ve got a good relationship with Keith Draper and Graham Scott at Sporting but obviously it’s up to the managers of every club to make the decision if they allow players to go.”

The quartet of potential new arrivals would come as a boost as Villa are suffering a small injury crisis.

Ryan Sproston is set to continue for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining another knee problem, while Jason Hulbert, Adam Pillinger, Matt Chambers (groin) and Martin Slevin (back) have all been missing in recent weeks.

On Saturday, Scott Gaffney opened the scoring for Fairfield but Hampton hit back with three goals.

Now they face Coton Green at home on Saturday (3pm ko) and Phoenix United on Tuesday (7.45pm ko).

Oakes added: “If we have any hope of finishing in the top four this season we’ve got to be winning games like these.”
