SKIPPER Dougie Brown wants Barnt Green to dent Himley’s title chase at Cherry Hill Road on Saturday.

The 2011 champions are out of the running for the title in the Birmingham and District League Premier Division, but they can play a major part in who will top the table when they tackle a Himley side who are pushing leaders Walsall all the way.

Brown insists Saturday’s game is about a winning end to a frustrating campaign.

He said: “We just want to end the season well and if that means upsetting the apple cart then so be it. Our main aim is to finish the season as strongly as we can.

“We’re going to end the season 60 or 70 points behind the champions and it’s frustrating. I’m sure that every team has their reasons for why they didn’t do better and if we finish 60 points behind the top team that’s where we deserve to be.”

Green go into the clash on the back of a fine win over Shrewsbury on Saturday.

After losing the toss and being put in, they were bowled out on a tricky surface for 176, with Craig Crowe (36) and James Ord (32) top-scoring.

Green’s bowlers also took full advantage of the conditions as Shrewsbury were reduced to 30-4 by Nicholas Powell (2-22) and Andrew Sutton (2-17).

Spinner Stephen Bevan then took 4-35 as Green dismissed the Shrews for 115.

Brown said: “We lost the toss and were put in but I wasn’t too unhappy as it was a surface that was going to deteriorate. We thought 200 would be about right but we made 176.

“Nick Powell and Andrew Sutton removed their top order and Stephen Bevan bowled really well.”
