FAIRFIELD Villa suffered mixed results in the Midland Combination Division One with a win and a loss over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Villa made a fine start to the long weekend with a 2-0 win over Archdales 73 but the slumped to a 3-0 home loss against Knowle on Monday.

That means after six games, they are seventh in the table with four wins and two defeats.

On Saturday, two goals in the first-half were enough to shoot down Archdales.

Keiron Evans combined well with debutant winger Mathew Chambers before striding through and opening the scoring.

It was the first time Villa had taken the lead this season and that advantage was doubled when Lewis Cosgrove fired a header into the back of the net.

The home side piled the pressure on to find a lifeline but keeper Spencer Hunt was in indomitable mood and the impressive Jamie Hatfield also cleared an effort off the line.

Fairfield were then surprised when Knowle picked up only their second win of the campaign with a superb 3-0 victory on Monday.

Villa will be aiming to bounce back on Saturday when they take on Hampton in the President’s Cup at home (3pm kick-off).

Meanwhile, Droitwich Spa got off the mark in Division One with a 2-1 win over Chelmsley Town on Saturday.

They then suffered a setback on Monday, with a 5-2 loss at Archdales.
