BROMSGROVE captain Mark Evenson is hoping his team can build on a comprehensive win over Coventry and North Warwickshire as they look to end the Birmingham and District League Division One on a high.

The Boars took a big step forward to ending any fears of being embroiled in a relegation battle with an eight-wicket victory.

They are now seventh in the table, 50 points behind second-placed Womborne with five games to go.

Evenson though, believes if Bromsgrove can finish in the top-five it will represent a good season.

He said: “If we go on a good run and Womborne then slip-up then there’s a chance we could finish second but it is unlikely.

“It would be great to end the season well and a top-five finish would be excellent.”

On Saturday, Bromsgrove were far too good for a Coventry side battling relegation.

Evenson won the toss and opted to bowl first and they soon ripped through Coventry’s batting order.

Tom Underhill (3-34) and Munowar Samsodien (4-60) did the damage as the home side were dismissed for 143. Alexei Kervezee also took one and Evenson two.

Ashley Newdick then underpinned the Boars’ response with 70 not out, back-up by Adam Galey (26), Kervezee (27) and Jayden Levitt (17) as the away side made 144-2 in reply.

The captain said: “It was a good display, we knew that Coventry were low on confidence and after winning the toss wanted a bowl at them.

“The bowlers played well and we managed to remove them for a good score.

“Ashley did well with the bat once again but it was a good performance all-round by the team.

“The teams above us have been more consistent than us but if we can end the season well we can get into the top-five.”

Bromsgrove entertain Kenilworth Wardens at home on Saturday and then face a derby at Ombersley on Bank Holiday Monday (both noon start).
