BROMSGROVE hockey player Dan Fox admit he’s weighing up his options after helping Team GB finish fourth at the London Olympics.

The 29-year-old played a big part as the host nation had their best finish since 1998, when they played in the bronze medal decider against world number one Australia and lost 3-1 on Saturday at the Riverbank Arena.

Britain had came through the group stage undefeated, beating Argentina and Pakistan and well as drawing with South Africa, Spain and Australia.

They were stunned in the semi-finals when they went down to the Netherlands 9-2 in a one-sided semi-final, before putting in a strong display in Saturday’s medal match.

Fox said: “We went into the Games ranked fourth in the world and that’s where we’ve finished.

“It’s frustrating because if things had gone slightly differently then we would have won a medal and to miss out is heartbreaking.

“Australia are still the best team in the world but they didn’t have the best of tournaments and it was unfortunate we played them in the bronze match.

“It was a privilege to be part of the Olympics, it was an amazing experience.

“Everbody involved, from the competitors, games-makers and crowds were amazing and I will never forget London 2012.”

Fox said scoring his first-ever outdoor international goal in Britain’s opening game win over Argentina was one of of his highlights, as well as the remarkable comeback against Australia in the group stage, where they came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3.

Now he will take a few weeks off before the National Premier Division starts again for the Hampstead and Westminster player.

With the International Challenge Trophy in December and the European Championships next year, the former Callowbrook First School pupil admits there are plenty of reasons to keep on playing at the highest level.

He said: “You have to sacrifice a lot to focus on the sport, it affects your family and work.

“So I will sit down in the next few weeks and talk to the people that matter and make a decision in the next couple of months.”
