MARTIN Aspley-Thomas was in good form as a number of Bromsgrove and Redditch AC’s senior members took part in the British Masters Track and Field Championships in Derby.

Aspley-Davis, who competed in the M35 age category, took fourth in the 400m and then went on to finish first in the 400m hurdles and set a new BRAC record of 60 minutes and 45 seconds.

Polly Gerner competed in the W50 category and finished fifth, while Julie Wakelam also had a brilliant event. After finishing sixth in the hammer competition with a PB and club record (29.65m), she then went on to finish fifth in the discus and first in the javelin with another PB and club record (24.59).

Meanwhile, the club’s juniors started the holidays with a trip to Kettering for the second meeting of the Heart of England Division Two League.

BRAC’s boys team finished fourth and the girls sixth, despite missing many athletes because of the summer holidays. Under-11s athlete Lewis Byng was again on form winning the 75 metres A race in 10.8 seconds, while in the B race, Josh Osbourne-Patel ran 12.8s to take fifth.

For the girls’ 75m Beth Lloyd was runner-up in 11.5s, after being awarded the same time as the first place athlete. Osbourne-Patel also ran in the 600m race finishing sixth in two minutes and 7.8 seconds, while in the girls race Beth Lloyd finished first with a time of 2.03.5. In the under-13s 100m, Oliver Bytom ran 15.5s to take fifth, while Joshua Pearson was runner-up in the 200m in 28s.

The girls 200m saw Olivia Worth finish sixth in 33.6s. In the 800m under-13s athlete Jack Drysdale ran 2.46s to finish fourth and Olivia Worth set 2.47.7 to take third in the girls race. For the under-13s girls 1,500m Amy Mijovic-Couldwell finished second in 5.43.2, while in the hurdles competition, Eva James finished fifth in 18.5s for the 70m and for the boys 75m hurdles Pearson won in 14.6. The club was represented by Danny Nicholls in the under-15 100m who took third with a PB of 12.4s.

Oliver Kemp came third in the B race with 12.9. In the girls race, Rebekah Miller ran 13.8s to take third place, just ahead of the Sutton Coldfield athlete and in the B race Ashleigh Bevan finished second in 13.8s.

Kemp went on to run the 200m ahead of the second-placed Dudley and Stourbridge athlete and Danny Nicholls won the B race in 26s.

Taking on the 200m Rebekah Miller finished second in 27.9s in the A race and Jessica Bennett ran a PB of 30s to finish runner-up in the B.

In the 400m race, Andrew Pearson finished third in 59.6s for third. Thomas Ellis was fifth in the under-15s 800m finishing, setting a time of 2.53.5.

In the girls race, Abbie Kemp came fourth in 2.51.9 despite being spiked on the first lap which then took her out of competing for the rest of the competition.

For the boys 1,500m Ben O’Connor ran a PB of 5.03.9 to take fifth and Ruth Gameson took another fifth finishing in 5.54.3.

Jessica Bennett won the 75m hurdles with a PB of 13.7s and Andrew Pearson won the 80m hurdles in 13.7s in the A and Thomas Ellis came second in the B race in 18.3s.

In the under-17s men’s category the 200m saw Adam Plummer come seventh in the under-17s 200m in 25.8s, with Alistair Mandando fourth with 26.7s in the B race.

In the 400m, Simeon Clarence went off in a blistering style to finish first in 51.8s in the A race and Adam Plummer ran 57.4s finishing second in the B.

Mandando also ran in the 800m taking second in 2.16.2s in the A race with James Downling taking second with a time of 2.16.5 in the B.

For the relays B&RAC finished fourth in the under-17s men’s 4x100m with a time of 50.6 and second in the under-15s boys category in 51.9s, while the girls team achieved third in 56.1s.

In the high jump competition, Christian James achieved a PB of 1.45m placing him second in the under-15s boys competition and in the under-13s girls competition Eva James gave the club another second place with a personal best jump of 1.20m.

The long lump competition saw James Downling come fourth with a jump of 4.85m in the under-17s men’s A competition while Lewis Anderson took second in the B with 3.91m.

In the under-15s boys competition, Andrew Pearson jumped a PB of 4.66m for runner-up spot and it was another second place for the club for Joshua Pearson who jumped 4.09 in the under-13s competition.

In the under-11s, Lewis Byng not only won with a PB of 4.43m but also jumped the furthest this year in his age category.

Candy Lockett took third with 4.35m in the under-15 girls and Ashleigh Bevan first in the B string with 4.23, while in the under-13s competition Lucy Harris jumped a PB of 4.12m to win the A competition and Amy Mijovic-Couldwell 3.25 to take third in the B event.

The shot putt competition saw James Downling finish fourth with a throw of 5.82m in the under-17s and Kemp throw 9.03m to end in third-place in the under-15s.

Sydney McKenzie took 3rd with a PB of 7.72m in the under 15 girls competition and in the under 13 competition Amy Mijovic-Couldwell threw 3.27 to place fifth. In the under-15 discus competition, Liam Bowden threw 19.51m for third and Thomas Ellis threw 12.58 to finish second in the B.

In the competition, Lockett threw 21.78 for second second spot. The club complete the league in Worcester on September 2.

Earlier in the summer, the club’s juniors took part in the ESAA Midland Schools’ Combined Events Championships. Kemp set PBs in the 800m (2.37.7, 11th), 80m hurdles (16s, 13th), high jump (1.39, 12th) and long jump (4.64m, 10th) as well as coming fifth in the shot putt with 9.45m.

Candy Lockett set a season’s in the under-15s high jump (1.16m) as well as personal bests in the 75m hurdles (16.5m, 19th) and shot putt (7.83m, 6th).
