5:00pm Wednesday 1st August 2012 in Sport
DROITWICH Spa reignited their title ambitions with a superb all-round display at Redditch in Worcestershire County League Division.
Despite losing skipper Martyn Davies to the second ball of the match, Spa went on to dominate with the bat.
Stuart Bryan was quickly into his stride and punished anything over pitched as he and Jerome Connor (20) took the score to 76 before the latter fell.
Max Young took charge as he blasted a 44-ball 74 as together with Stuart Bryan, a third-wicket stand of 117 was scored off 13 overs.
Redditch fought back with the dismissals of Stuart Bryan (91) and Young, but the the experienced pairing of Ian Cottrill (53) and Paul Bryan (75) put on 137 for the fifth wicket as Spa closed with an imposing total of 333-4.
In reply, Redditch were well-placed at 70-1 from 12 overs with Tom Field and Russell Southwick looking good, but any hopes of a home win ended with the removal of the latter by Karl Goddard (2-23).
Redditch were looking comfortable against the Spa seam attack, but when spin was brought into the fray the visitors turned the match.
Davies took four wickets, including two caught and bowled, while David Lane claimed a brace as Redditch slumped to 215 all out.
Relegation-threatened Chaddesley Corbett boost their survival chances in DivisionThree with a four-wicket success over Himbleton.
Jon Critchlow’s 114 and a 77 for Duncan Roake role ensured Corbett’s opponents powered to 289-6 in their 50 overs.
But after a wobbly start, which saw Grant Bishop bowled for three, Chaddesley hit back through Matthew Grange (28), Rob Hirons (34), Matthew Yardley (84), Simon Robinson and Nathan Glass (55no) as the Wyre Forest outfit hit 292-6 in reply.
In Division Four, promotion-chasing Avoncroft suffered a setback when they lost to rivals Bromsgrove thirds by 83 runs.
David James took four wickets as Bromsgrove were restricted to 210-9. In reply, James was the only Croft player to make an impact with the bat as he struck 55 as the home side were bowled out for 127.
