BROMSGROVE Sporting director and fixtures secretary David Stephens has been awarded the Midland Youth Floodlit League Premier Division South trophy for secretary of the year.

Stephens was unable to attend the league’s AGM to receive the award as it coincided with that of the Midland Combination, but chairman Colin Lowe made a special trip to the Victoria Ground last Thursday to present him with his trophy.

Facilities director Jon Prescott who attended the meeting on his behalf said: “This is a deserved award and recognises David’s hard work and dedication to the job during the year.”

Also on Thursday, joint managers Keith Draper and Graham Scott along with assistant Ron Mellor gave a presentation to supporters and took questions.

They then outlined their plans for the season which sees them retain most of the players from the previous campaign with a few new additions.

Training is already under way and preparations are in place for the first friendly of the season a week on Saturday when Sporting entertain Stourbridge.

Goalkeeping coach John Slade has left to spend more time with his son, an apprentice with Burton Albion and midfielder Joe Brookes won’t be available due to work commitments
