TYLER Weir’s signing for Worcester City has moved a step closer after the player rejected a move to rivals Gloucester City.
Weir has been tracked by several clubs, including the Blue Square Bet North duo, since the end of the season and that interest has increased now his contract at Hereford United has expired.
But the versatile 21-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, has opted against rejoining the Tigers, where he was twice on loan from the Bulls.
City had Weir on loan for the second half of last season and are keen to keep hold of him.
Gloucester boss Dave Mehew said: “He’s turned us down, we put up a good fight to be in the running for Tyler but you win some, you lose some and we’ve lost out on this one.”
Meanwhile, American-born midfielder Jay Denny and former Chasetown striker Danny Smith will also be joining City for pre-season training tonight.
Denny, 26, was last with Hednesford Town, where he made 106 appearances, and has also been at Nuneaton and Shrewsbury, as well as playing for the United States Under 20s.
