EVESHAM face the threat of being kicked out of the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League after failing to fulfil a second XI fixture.

The Blind Lane side were due to visit Brockhampton in Division Two (South) but did not have enough players.

As a result, both the club’s first and second XIs will be deducted 24 points and Brockhampton second XI awarded a 24-point victory.

Evesham have been warned both their teams will be expelled should they fail to fulfil another fixture before the end of the season.

A third XI game was also played on the same day with Evesham defeating Pedmore by 182 runs in Worcestershire County League Division Eight.

Birmingham League general manager Nick Archer said: “We are keen for them to fulfil their fixtures for the integrity of the league.

“We want to see Evesham continue as a club, the last thing we want them to do is to pull out of the league but clearly some things will have to be addressed at the end of the season.”

It is the latest setback in a dismal campaign for Evesham, whose first XI are bottom of Division Two and Saturday’s 157-run defeat to Fordhouses leaves them without a win or even a draw in nine attempts.

The club lost a string of players after relegation from Division One last season and are believed to have replaced them with numerous signings from the Birmingham area.

No-one from Evesham was available for comment.
