DROITWICH Dolphins have qualified for the 2009 Division Two final of the Nuneaton Junior Swimming League in September.

In the round three gala held at Nuneaton swimming pool, Droitwich needed to finish in the top two on the night to guarantee a place in the final… and a second place was duly achieved, earning them a very credible fourth spot in Division Two.

On the night the team were excellent, both in and out of the water.

The atmosphere at the gala was tremendous, with four teams vying for final places, but it was with a crescendo of cheering and top quality swimming that Droitwich Dolphins stood head and shoulders above the competition.

Of the 51 events, Droitwich were placed first or second in 28 of them

There were individual wins for Teri Woodhouse in the nine years Backstroke, Joe Essery in the 10U Breaststroke, Sophie Groves and Aaron Biddle in the 11U Backstroke, Ruth Hadley in the 11U Butterfly and Freestyle, Sam Cave in the 11U Butterfly and Freestyle and also the 12U Butterfly, and Anthony Redfern in the 12U Freestyle.

There were also strong relay team performances, with the boys claiming victories in the nine years, 11U, and 12U age groups, and the girls in the 11U age group.

The final will take place in September, with a place in Division One at stake.

Bromsgrove Prep School year six swimmers Jack Weston, Jeremy Turner, Harry Lloyd-Jones and Henry Walker won the U11 4 x 25m Medley Relay at the National ESSA Championships held in Sheffield.

The competition is open to all state and independent primary and prep schools in England.

It is the first time that any Bromsgrove School team has won a swimming title at this level.

The four boys swam superbly to break the school record by two and a half seconds and become national champions.

In the freestyle relay Bromsgrove came fourth, and were overall second in both relays combined, one point behind the championship winners Merchant Taylors’ from Crosby.
