Boars dig in for win

BROMSGROVE CC came through a difficult week that saw the loss of two first team players to seal a magnificent victory over near rivals Kidderminster.

The young Boars, led by Nick Husbands, chased down an impressive 263 with more than two overs to spare, thanks to 18 year old Tom Friend and Tom Green who both batted with great maturity.

Stand in skipper Husbands won the toss and elected to bowl first, hoping the conditions and the forecast of showers would assist their quest for points.

But no sooner had the first ball been bowled, the skies cleared and Kidderminster had 55 overs in perfect batting conditions, helped further by the loss of Greg Chinn before he had chance to bowl.

Young openers Pardoe and Wood (42) put on a century opening stand before Ash Newdick took the wicket of Wood.

Pinner and Pardoe continued pushing the score on ,with it reaching 187.

This could have been more, had 16 year old leg spinner Jake Young not put in an excellent spell of bowling in the middle overs.

Pardoe reached a well made century in the 45th over before being the first of four wickets in Husbands second spell.

His experience came through to prevent Kidderminster setting a formidable total of over 300 and they were happy with the 263 off 55 overs.

Bromsgrove, short on batting, knew that a solid opening start was needed and Newdick and Alexei Kervezee did just that, rewarding the swelling crowd to a splendid display of batting.

The pair put on 122 for the first wicket before Kervezee (64) was needlessly run out.

Levitt followed soon after but Newdick kept the momentum going.

He was finally out for 90.

At this stage Kidderminster may have sensed a chance but Tom Friend (38) and Tom Green (56no) saw their side home within a couple of runs of victory.

In a partnership of 83 they put all Kidderminster bowlers to the sword, including Worcestershire's Imran Arif.

Friend was finally out trying to steer the ball past the keeper for the winning runs, but fittingly it was Green who pumped the ball for four to win the game with almost three overs to spare.
