MALVERN Town manager Joe Rawle says he wants to get this season out of the way as his side head towards relegation from British Gas Business Division One Midlands.

The Langland Stadium side travel to Cambridgeshire on Saturday to face Soham Town Rangers (3pm) knowing that, if results go against them, they could be all but relegated.

Even maximum points from their remaining fixtures may not be enough to pull off what would be the ultimate great escape.

Town’s only absentee on Saturday is suspended defender Liam Paddock.

But, with relegation to the Midland Alliance looming, Rawle reflected on a challenging campaign.

He said: “I’ve not had a season like this one before, it has capped the lot.

“Everything that’s possible to go wrong has gone wrong. I want to get this season out of the way and start afresh.

“But we won’t throw the towel in completely, we just aren’t good enough to compete in this league. “Maybe if we had experienced players like Scott Morris, Wes Joyce and Jamie Hyde, who have left the club recently, for these crucial games we have coming up we could have done better.

“I knew from day one it was going to be a long, hard slog but it’s been harder than I thought.”
