STOURPORT fought back from four goals behind but lost out 4-3 to leaders University of Exeter in the Slazenger English Hockey League Men’s Conference West.

Andrew Langlands, Phil Lashford and Chirs Griffiths were on the scoresheet.

The women’s Firsts finished off their Midlands Division One programme with a 2-0 victory over Leighton Buzzard.

Stourport began the match slowly and were lucky not to have been a goal down early on.

The hosts improved after the break and the skill of Hannah Goss and Liz Cooke caused the Leighton defence plenty of problems.

Stourport took the lead from a short corner when player-of-the-match Sarah Cavendish set-up Heidi Devey to deflect the ball past the keeper.

Devey doubled the advantage soon after but keeper Gemma Brookes later saved a penalty flick and produced a fine diving save.

The Seconds consolidated their position at the top of Worcestershire Division One with a 4-0 victory over Droitwich.

Vickie Kovacs put them ahead and the lead remained intact following some good saves from keeper Sophie Wood. Stourport also struck the post with a penalty flick.

The hosts dominated the second-half and scored three more goals.

Captain Shelley Tromans made it 2-0, Claire Dodds got the third and Lucy Mattocks the fourth.

A single first-half goal from Kate Bailey was enough to give the Thirds victory against Bromsgrove Seconds in Worcestershire Division Two.

Stourport dominated the match from start to finish and Bailey scored after 20 minutes.

They created chances after the break but were unable to add to their tally.

The Fourths were beaten 5-1 at Droitwich Seconds in Worcestershire Division Two.

Chris Corcoran scored their goal but Stourport squandered several opportunities.
