WORCESTER Wolves’ tireless work off the court has been rewarded with England Basketball’s Clubmark accolade.

The University of Worcester-based side have received three-star accreditation for their community and school development work.

Since joining the British Basketball League in 2006, Wolves have stepped up their efforts to ensure a strong presence in both Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

Their community packages include grass roots programmes, a Hoops for Health initiative and three-on-three tournaments for secondary schools.

Wolves have also established a Learning Through Sport programme developed by the city’s university which focuses on numeracy, literacy and preparation for the National SATs tests.

Head coach Skouson Harker said: “We are delighted to have achieved the Clubmark status as it is vital in our plans to continue moving the Wolves forward and continue our ever-growing presence within the community.

“We were able to show that we have strong foundations and are determined to build upon these to provide even more positive basketball opportunities and experiences for the whole of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

“I would like to personally thank all of the Wolves coaches, staff and a special thanks to our many Wolves volunteers as they are so very crucial to our success and existence.”

Chairman Roger Clarke said: “Since our formation in 2000, we have worked tirelessly to develop the club on the court and in the community.

“The partnership between the Wolves and the University of Worcester has clearly shown that sport and education can work effectively together.”
