BARNT Green skipper Andy Sutton insists his players are up for the fight as they continue to stare relegation in face.

The Green remain rooted in the Birmingham League Premier Division drop zone following a five wicket reverse against top of the table Berkswell.

But Sutton said: "There's still everything to play for. We've seven games left and 140 points on offer.

"If we can win four of them, that would hopefully be enough to keep us up.

"I've said enough over the past few weeks. I just need the players to fight and fight again, that's all I can ask for, that the players give me everything."

Barnt Green's batting was held together against Berkswell by 17-year-old Jacques Banton who went onto score his maiden Birmingham League century by scoring 101 off 113 balls, his ton comprising of eight fours and four sixes.

Sutton added: "I cannot praise Jacques enough. I think it was his first Premier Division 50, let alone 100. Hopefully he will be following his brother Tom's footsteps.

"With Darrell Williams adding a belated 43 not out, it took us to 241 for nine and I thought anything over 230 was going to be a good total".

But the Green failed to follow up in the field. Despite the presence of Warwickshire's Matt Lamb, Josh Poysden and Ryan Sidebottom in their ranks, Berkswell still proceeded to canter home on 244 for five with 13 overs to spare.

Sutton admitted: "We dropped a couple of catches early on and that started to set the tone.

"But it was the spinners that really disappointed on a wicket which was offering some turn.

"That said, Nick James batted beautifully for his 75 and took the game away from us."

Barnt Green visit Moseley this Saturday as the Birmingham League reverts back to the win-lose format.

Sutton said: "I'm still up for the fight and Moseley are a team who are very beatable.

"We don't have to worry about playing any of the top sides now, so that will help . It's all about staying up now."
