DROITWICH Spa Cricket Club’s firsts and seconds collected wins albeit one was much closer than the other.

The first XI finally won their first Worcestershire League Division Two game of the summer in nervy fashion as they beat early-season pace-setters Belbroughton by three wickets in a low-scoring contest at St Peter’s Fields.

They were indebted to a disciplined bowling and fielding display that saw the visitors dismissed for just 132.

The returning Max Young laid the foundations with two early wickets to claim 2-32 from 16 overs.

Fellow opener Phil Thomas maintained his early-season consistency by picking up 3-38 from his 16 overs and there were three wickets for swing bowler Carl Thomson too.

The Spa reply got off to a positive start and despite the loss of two early wickets Martyn Davies and Young looked relatively untroubled as they cruised towards their victory target.

However, their departures in quick succession left Droitwich on 74-4 with Belbroughton sensing the chance of an unlikely victory.

But the wise head of veteran Paul Bryan remained calm and despite three further wickets falling he remained unbeaten on 30 to guide his side home in the 41st over.

There were stand-out performances from two teenagers as the seconds thrashed Pedmore by 162 runs in Division One.

Sixteen-year-old Adam Keen hit his maiden senior century off 127 balls as Droitwich piled up 269-4 with Stuart Bryan and Rhys John contributing 55 and 44 respectively.

Keen carried his bat to finish on 107 not out.

After Oli Sankey ripped through Pedmore’s top order to claim 3-22, Josh Sinclair mopped up the rest to grab his first senior five-wicket haul as he returned 5-31.

Elsewhere, the thirds were defeated by 69 runs at Barnt Green in Division Five.

The fourths got a Division Seven losing draw against Netherton where there was a half-century for Jack Eaton.

On Saturday the fixtures switch to straight win or lose format with the firsts travelling to table-topping Bromyard and the seconds hosting Stourport.

The thirds visit Old Hill while the fourths meet Hagley.
