BROMSGROVE Sporting are on the brink of winning this season's Midland League title following their 3-1 success over Shrewsbury side Haughmond.

One more point would make certain of a top-two finish and promotion which the Rouslers would look to wrap up at Loughborough University on Saturday.

Prior to that, the Rouslers attempt to add some additional silverware when they travel to Kidderminster Harriers Aggborough ground on Thursday night to face Lye Town in the Worcester Senior Urn Final.

The Rouslers will be hoping for a huge following on both occasions and manager Brendan Kelly said: "The supporters have been our 12th man all season."

A crowd of 950 watched the Rouslers recover from going an early goal down to defeat Haughmond and Kelly described the following as 'incredible'.

He added: "I'd like to feel we're putting the club on the map. Our success in both the league and the FA Vase has really helped and the supporters want to be part of something.

"We seem to be attracting support of all ages, from young kids to families. There's a real community feel about the place.

"But I'd also like to feel we're playing a decent brand of football that people will want to watch."

Kelly also praised his strike partnership of Jason Cowley and Richard Gregory. Both were on the mark again against Haughmond.

Cowley currently leads the Midland League goalscoring charts with 30 goals and has now become the club's leading all-time goalscorer, surpassing the previous highest marksman Chris Conway.

Richard Gregory remains just two goals behind Cowley having scored 28 times in just 23 games.

Kelly said: "The pair are a class-act. Both of them are in the hunt to win the 'Golden Boot' prize this year and we will continue to provide them with the ammunition.

"The pair of them have been on fire over the last four or five weeks and I will do all I can to keep them at the club."Jason is out of contract at the end of the season and we will be talking to him.

"I've already had positive talks with Richard. He's very happy at Bromsgrove and doesn't want to go anywhere else.

"But while I'm aware that goals can change games, it's defenders that win you matches and titles. The lads at the other end of the pitch do an equally important job".

While Sporting can secure promotion at Loughborough, the title race will extend further following Highgate United's stunning late surge.

Highgate have four games in hand over Sporting and remain 15 points adrift going into this week's round of matches.

Kelly added: "I take my hat off to them. They keep reeling off the results and keeping clean sheets. We cannot effect what they do but we will keep going until it is mathematically confirmed.

"Although one more point confirms promotion, it would be a disaster if we didn't win the league title now".

Following Saturday's trip to Loughborough, the Rouslers face Lye again on Tuesday at their Stourbridge Road ground before entertaining South Normanton the following Saturday in their final league fixture. It promises to be quite an occasion.
