WORCESTER Wolves have been “overwhelmed” by the response from fans as they build up to next week’s BBL Cup final.

More than 600 Wolves supporters are set to make the journey to the Arena Birmingham on Sunday, January 28 to cheer on their side against Cheshire Phoenix.

And Worcester’s players were keen to personally thank the fans for their support as they handed over the purchased tickets this week.

Team captain Alex Navajas said: “The ‘Wolfpack’ are definitely our sixth man and we owe much of our success to their support.

“We are in this together and hope for a big day for the club in Birmingham.

“We really want to bring the cup home for them.”

Director and arena manager April White added: “The response of Wolves fans to the team making it through to the cup final has been overwhelming.

“Over 600 of the ‘Wolfpack’ will be backing the Wolves as we aim to bring home the silverware to Worcester.”

White admitted the club’s decision at the end of last season to cut season ticket prices had led to a “huge upturn” in the number of spectators this term and felt it had a “positive impact” on the team’s performances.

Wolves have won 11 of their last 12 games, with their only defeat coming against British Basketball League leaders Leicester Riders.

Managing director Mick Donovan said: "Our supporters have played such an important part so far this season and in previous campaigns.

“We thought that it would be fitting that the players and fans shared the excitement of the build up to the final together.

“When we suggested this fans’ event to the players and coaching staff, they immediately came back with a positive response"

Long-time Wolves fan Amba Matthews added: “Getting to the cup final is amazing.

“We were here four years ago for the trophy, so some more silverware would be exciting and of course what we’re all looking for.

“The chance to meet all of the players is wonderful and helps to create stronger connections between the players and the fans.”
