DROITWICH Spa slipped to their second straight defeat, going down 1-0 at home to Feckenham.

Once again the Saltmen were struggling with injuries and suspension, missing six players for the Total Motion Midland Football League Division Two clash at Stourport's Walshes Meadow.

Spa joint-manager Mark Owen had signed to play and the striker made his first competitive appearance in more than two years.

Droitwich, who lost 1-0 at Hampton the previous weekend, started the game on the front foot and created several good chances.

They were all spurned by poor finishing or denied by saves from Millers keeper Josh Goddard while Haydn Morris also had an effort cleared off the line.

Veteran Owen, despite being somewhat off the pace of the game, played some classy passes but failed to get any shots off.

At the other end, Feckenham also had some opportunities but more poor finishing was on show as keeper Matt Oliver was not tested.

However, the Millers took the lead midway through the half as a Spa attack broke down, the visitors broke away and with the defence out of shape a pin-point through-ball was finished clinically by Danny Murphy with only Oliver to beat.

The goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the hosts who failed to create any further chances in the first period.

The second half began in much the same fashion as Andy Crowther hit the post while another effort was cleared off the line.

But chances were at a premium, especially for Spa as a well-organised Feckenham defence stood resolutely against any further threats.

Droitwich quickly ran out of ideas which resulted in a long ball forward that was easily dealt with.

Feckenham could have gone further ahead but Oliver made an excellent save and was quick off his line to deny both Ben Elliott and Murphy.

Another disappointing showing from a much-changed and out-of-form Droitwich saw Feckenham just about deserve the win for their endeavour over the 90 minutes.

With no game this weekend, fifth-from-bottom Droitwich will try to regroup before visiting fellow strugglers Barnt Green Spartak on Saturday, October 28.
