Bromsgrove RFC 60-12 Lutterworth RFC

BROMSGROVE continue to sweep all before them in Midlands One West this season after they lashed Leicestershire side Lutterworth at Finstall Park.

They made it six wins out of six after embarking on a nine try romp following some exhibition style rugby.

But hard-to-please head coach Dan Protherough warned: "We cannot afford any let-up. This was our best performance to date this season but that was because we did the basics well.

"Now I want to see us back up a good performance with another one.

"The most pleasing thing is that this wasn't an intense game, owing to the fact the game was won from well out. That should stand us in good stead when we travel to Melbourne in Derbyshire this week."

Despite the massive margin of victory, Bromsgrove still managed to fall behind early in the first half.

An early penalty from fly half James Upton was quickly cancelled out when Lutterworth snatched an unconverted try.

Bromsgrove battled back and ran in four tries before half time, full back Chris Hooper and left wing Josh Holt both crossing the line twice, Upton converted three of them to put his side 29-5 in front by half time.

But Bromsgrove then offered Lutterworth an early lifeline in the second half when they dropped the ball straight from the kick-off and allowed Lutterworth to cross for a converted try and claw the score back to 29-12.

That was as good as it got for Lutterworth and Bromsgrove systematically brushed them aside with five more tries.

Chris Hooper completed his hat-trick while flanker James Abbot, right wing Ollie Bache, inside centre Jack Barwick and replacement scrum half Richard Mahoney all added their names to the scoresheet while Upton kicked the remaining points.

Protherough addd: "We can take nothing for granted. Games away from home are always tough as we discovered at Hereford and Camp Hill. We will have to raise our game again at Melbourne."
