TABLE toppers Bromsgrove have been told there is still room for improvement despite pulling off a 19-14 success at Hereford to take over top spot in Midlands One West this week.

Bromsgrove breezed to a fifth straight win but failed to impress head coach Dan Protherough who believes his side should have put the game to bed in the third quarter.

Hard-to-please Protherough insisted: "We didn't play with the same intensity as we did in the win over Dudley Kingswinford.

"We won, which was great, but we need to start backing up performances and should have been more ruthless when we had the chance. I was disappointed that we didn't come away with four tries and a bonus point."

It was Hereford who made all the early running as they built an 11-0 lead before Bromsgrove began to move into gear.

Right wing Sam Bostock sprinted over for an unconverted try before opposite wing Josh Holt continued his recent scoring spree with a second which full back Chris Hooper converted to put Bromsgrove 12-11 in front at the break.

A dominant third quarter display only yielded one more try through Hooper, replacement fly half Richard Mahoney kicking the conversion.

Hereford kicked a last-gasp penalty to make sure of a bonus point and Protherough added: "Hereford took the game to us in the first half and it's not the easiest of places to go and pick up a win.

"The fact we didn't capitalise on the third quarter made for a nervous finish and we need to make sure we're quicker out of the blocks in future".

Bromsgrove were able to field four sides for the first time this season which bodes well for the future, but they have no fixture this Saturday.
