BUOYANT Bromsgrove produced their best performance of the season so far with a thrilling 43-36 success over fellow title contenders Dudley Kingswinford to go top of Midlands One West.

The Finstall Park side reeled off a fourth straight win in what head coach Dan Protherough described as 'A fantastic game of rugby'.

There's no stopping wing wizard Josh Holt at the moment as he went onto score a hat-trick of tries, taking his tally to six in four games.

Further tries came from full-back Chris Hooper who crossed the line twice with scrum-half Will Harris also getting on the score sheet.

The remaining points came from the boot of James Upton who kicked three penalties and two conversions.

Protherough said: "All of tries were scored wide out, which is why there were only two conversions, but it was a brilliant game to watch at a frenetic pace between two good sides where the lead continually changed hands. As a result, both sides were shattered at the end.

"We've now won more games this season than we did throughout the whole of last season - but it's important that everyone keeps their feet on the ground.

"Last season was very tough when you consider all the travelling that was involved when going to the South West. We went through some dark times, but the most important thing is that we managed to keep everyone together and now we're reaping the benefits.

"Dudley Kingswinford are a good side with some very good players.

If we'd played like we did in the win over Burton the previous week, then we would have lost to Dudley Kingswinford.

"I wasn't happy that we gave Dudley Kingswinford three tries following turnover ball and that is something we need to work on."

Bromsgrove travel to Hereford this week boosted by the return of back row player Jake Abbott.
