CONCERNED Bromsgrove RFC head coach Dan Protherough will warn his players to start improving their discipline after his side reeled off a third straight win in Midlands One West with a 31-21 triumph at Camp Hill.

Protherough was unhappy his side conceding too many penalties, especially in the second quarter when they allowed Camp Hill back into the game.

Bromsgrove had started the contest with all guns blazing and quickly built up a 17-3 advantage thanks to tries from fly half Will Harris and outside centre Ed Spalding,  while scrum half Richard Mahoney kicked the remaining points with two conversions and a penalty.

But an ill disciplined period allowed Camp Hill to level by half time before taking a 23-20 lead.

Protherough admitted: "We need to tighten up our discipline because we're giving away far too many penalties. If we continue to do that, we'll get punished."

Bromsgrove battled back to seal victory with a third try from left wing Josh Holt while James Upton took over the kicking duties after moving to fly half and landed a couple of penalties.

Protherough added: "We should have been awarded a penalty try right at the death when we instigated a catch and drive from a line-out.

"A Camp Hill player illegally brought down the driving maul and was yellow carded but the referee only awarded us a penalty.

"We should have repeated the catch and drive, but instead a tap penalty was attempted, only to be held up on the line.

"There comes a stage where you have to trust the players because they're the people on the pitch - but in this instance, the wrong option was taken."

Bromsgrove will be hoping for a bumper Finstall Park crowd this Saturday (3pm) for the visit of early season leaders Dudley Kingswinford who have taken a maximum 15 points from their first three games.
