MIDLAND League champions Alvechurch have added AFC Hinckley wideman Javia Roberts to their squad as they prepare for life in the Northern Premier League next season.

Roberts impressed against Alvechurch in the League Cup final as Ian Long's side went onto complete the season with a memorable league and cup double.

Smethwick-based Roberts has previously played for Redditch United and Rushall Olympic.

Long said: "We've had Javia watched a couple of times. He brings that little bit of extra pace to the side and his arrival will free up top marksman Josh March to play a more central role."

Long has wasted little time in building the framework of his squad for next season.

He has nailed down goalkeeper Paul Evans and both full backs with Jamie Ashmore and Zak Foster who are remaining at Lye Meadow for another season.

Long added: "I'm convinced we had the best two full backs in the league last season, both are big weapons in our armoury.

"Both Jamie and Zak proved a big part of our success last season. They are both very good on the ball and get up and down the flanks very quickly."

Long has also agreed terms with David Bellis, Ryan Winwood, Tom Turton, Josh March and Andy Parsons while Ash Carter has arrived after turning down the chance of full-time football with Kidderminster Harriers.

Long has also hinted there could be a return on the cards for Sam Williams after he left the Church last season to join rivals Walsall Wood.

Boss Long told The Advertiser: "Sam got injured and hasn't been playing for the past three or four months. He spent two years with me at Tividale and was my player of the season. I know what he can bring to the side."
