DROITWICH Spa Pirates under 12s will be going for glory in the Midland Junior Premier Football League Cup final on Saturday (4pm).

The boys will tackle Oadby Owls from Leicestershire at Rugby Town Juniors' Kilsby Lane ground.

Pirates compete in the top regional grassroots league and are the first team from the 38-year-old Droitwich Spa Boys and Girls Football Club to reach a cup final in the competition.

Spa qualified in the top section of the league and then played four rounds, winning on penalties against Trysull Tigers, 1-0 at top-ranked side Lichfield Round Table Whites, 2-1 against Rugby Town in the last eight and 1-0 against Belvedere Park in the semi-final.

Manager Clive Carter said: "It is already a huge achievement to get this far and if we win it will be a remarkable success.

"The boys conduct themselves with great dignity at all times and play with a passion that few can match.

"They are a great credit to their club as well as their coaches and parents. We are all very proud of them."

Jenson Warrier skippers the side with Ewan Carter his deputy.

Jack Harris, Alfie Bateson, Joshua Hurdman, Luke Bahia, Samuel Lea, Luka Ferguson, Shravann Raajkumar, Harvey Osborne, Adam Hanson, Lucas Pepper and Isaac Pepper are also in the squad.
