ALVECHURCH can clinch the Midland Football League title on Saturday providing they can pull off a victory at second placed Coleshill Town.

Church boss Ian Long will leave nothing to chance, he said: "I want to get the title wrapped up as quickly as possible."

Long has called upon all Church supporters to follow his side to Coleshill.

He added: "It would be great to win the title in front of a big crowd of our supporters. We really want to win it for the fans and our numbers have been growing game by game."

Church have stuttered in recent matches and let two points slip through their fingers last Saturday when held to a 2-2 draw by Shepshed in front of a bumper Lye Meadow crowd.

David Bellis put the Church in front but two goals in the space of a minutes from Matt Langham and Mike Reeves gave Shepshed the lead before Andy Parsons levelled before the break.

Long admitted: "We didn't play well in the first half and some of the players looked nervous and on edge, when we shouldn't have be.

"I've got seven players who've been through all this before when we won the league with Tividale, while Jamie Willetts was at champions Hereford last season, so it's nothing they haven't experienced before.

"I gave the players a bit of a telling off at half time and we should have gone onto win the game.

"We pressed Shepshed back in the second half and had a couple of goalbound efforts cleared off the line. On another day we would have taken the three points.

"But there's no easy games at this level and we're finding that teams are raising themselves when they play us.

"At this stage of the season, some teams you play are half-way on the beach, but not when they're playing against us.

"However, we've got four chances to get over the line, starting at Coleshill on Saturday."

Church are back in action on Easter Monday when they entertain Boldmere St Michaels.
