MIDLAND Football League Division Two leaders Droitwich Spa were held 1-1 by sixth-placed Paget Rangers at King George’s Playing Fields.

Both sides came into the game with promotion aspirations but also had injury and unavailability issues.

Spa dominated most of the first half and top-scorer Nick Seabourne was denied by a last-ditch clearance after rounding keeper Josh Benton who then easily claimed the same player’s header.

But the Saltmen took the lead after good work from Luke Molloy and Max Crisp fed Seabourne who cut inside and fired a low shot into the bottom corner before half-time.

It took Paget 20 minutes of the second half to get into their stride but Spa were their own worst enemies after defending resolutely for so long.

They were forced back deep into their own half and fine work from substitute Billy Fagg sent veteran Mark Bellingham clear to beat keeper Matt Oliver from close range.

The game eventually fizzled out, leaving probably a fair point for both sides.

Watched by 117 fans, Spa gave a debut to new signing Jack Allerton, 21, a former Birmingham City academy player, in midfield.

Allerton has also played for the England under 19s futsal squad and Loughborough University.

Spa visit ninth-placed Tamworth side Coton Green on Saturday (3pm) with Alvis Sporting Club just one point off the top and boasting five games in hand.
