FAIRFIELD Villa fired home six of the best as they blitzed fourth placed Sutton United 6-3 in Midland League Division Two.

Six shooters Villa have now pulled nine points clear of Sutton and look set to battle it out for a top three finish along with leaders Alvis and second placed Droitwich Spa.

It could have been a completely different story after strike duo Connor Collins and Alex Dugmore got caught up in a traffic and had to be named on the bench.

Sutton took full advantage to build a 2-0 lead as Villa missed countless chances before Ellis Blakemore clawed a goal back.

The second half was a different story as Collins was quickly called into action and soon levelled before Stuart Hall diverted a fierce goalbound shot from Jimmy Ward into the net.

Collins then converted his second goal before Blakemore completed his brace to put Villa out of sight at 5-2.

Sutton secured a third goal in stoppage time but there was still long enough for Dugmore to make it six of the best.

Villa spokesman Paul Oakes said: "We knew Connor and Alex were on their way, but we couldn't take the chance and had to put them on the bench.

"In truth, we could have won by more, especially as Sutton cleared a couple of chances off the line."

Villa entertain bottom of the table Continental Star in the Presidents Cup this Saturday with the winners visiting Coton Green in the semi-finals.
