HEAD coach Dan Protherough says Bromsgrove need to discover their cutting edge if they are to lift themselves away from the foot of the table.

The Boars, who sit bottom of National League Three South West, failed to build on their first victory of the season as they suffered a 44-23 defeat at Newton Abbot last Saturday.

However, Protherough was pleased with his side's showing and thinks the outcome could have been a lot different if only they'd been ruthless as the try line approached.

He said: "It was a good game and I don't think the scoreline reflects that. They ran in two late tries to make the scoreline look worse than it really was.

"We were well in the game before then and perhaps got a bit tired as the game wore on and missed too many tackles in open play.

"We went in with a lead at the break but I think we probably should have been further ahead.

"Credit to Newton Abbot, they came out and were very good in the second half and we kicked a little aimlessly at times.

"Overall it comes down to our cutting edge. In a league where teams are of a similar standard there will be periods when we are on top in games. When that happens we need to be more clinical and our decision making has to improve."

Bromsgrove have a break from the league this Saturday when they take on Bournville in the North Mids Cup.

Protherough says he will use the clash to assess some of the club's younger players and give an opportunity to those in need of game time.

They will return to league action when they host second-placed Old Redcliffians at Finstall Park on Saturday, November 19.
