FAIRFIELD Villa fell short when they suffered a 4-2 reverse at home to Paget Rangers in Midland Football League Division Two.

Villa were missing several defenders and it showed in the early stages when they conceded two goals in the opening 16 minutes - both from corners.

They clawed their way back on level terms by the hour with a goal from Lewis Smith and an own goal.

But they were undone by a free kick from prolific non-league striker Mark Bellingham who converted with the 700th goal of his career.

Paget plundered a fourth goal in stoppage time and Villa spokesman Paul Oakes said: "Paget deserved to win. You could see why they are one of the favourites to go up this season.

"The fact that we conceded two goals from corner situations is now becoming a worrying trend and something we need to look at."

Villa make the short trip to Earlswood Town this Saturday and should be reinforced in defence by the return of Ryan Molesworth, Dan Price, Omar Salih and Joe Mayo while Ben Smith is serving a one match ban.
