BROMSGROVE cricketers will be keen to finish the season on an encouraging note after Saturday's contest with Birmingham League Division One side Smethwick was completely washed out.

The previous week's home game with Moseley suffered a similar fate and Bromsgrove skipper Mark Evenson insisted: "It's important that we finish on a positive note."

Bromsgrove face a tough trip to already promoted Brockhampton with the Herefordshire side battling it out with Dorridge at the top to see who finishes as champions.

Evenson added: "We'll be looking to cause an upset as I don't want to finish the season with a loss.

"The prospects for play against Smethwick didn't look great from early morning and I got in touch with them to save any travelling.

"There was no chance of play before 3pm. A few of their guys did come across but there wasn't any point sitting around until 5pm in the hope we might get a 20 overs game. There wasn't anything riding on the game, so we called it off.

"Now we're just hoping the seconds can get promoted."

The seconds currently sit second in Division Two South, 13 points behind leaders Berkswell.

Their prospects of closing the gap suffered a setback when Saturday's game at Eastnor was abandoned with the hosts on 32 for one after seven overs.

The seconds host fourth placed Stratford this week.
