ASTWOOD Bank sealed third place in Birmingham League Division Three this season after securing a 23 run success at home to Shropshire side Worfield.

The Bank deposited a total of 158 for seven off 30 overs before restricting Worfield to 125 for nine in reply.

Bank skipper Steve Adshead said: "It was pouring with rain and took place on the wettest pitch I've ever played upon, which does bring into question consistency as conditions at Pershore the previous week were much better, but we didn't play at all."

Pete Alexander led the charge for the Bank on 38 while Adshead with 26, Tom Pedley 20 and Tom Underhill on 27, kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Worfield, who were desperate to play as they remain in the thick of the relegation places, had their target for victory reduced to 148 after losing three overs to rain.

But it proved to no avail as accurate bowling by Dan Taylor with three for 19 off six overs and Mike Desmond who took three for 26 from five overs kept Worfield tied down.

The Bank bring down the curtain on their season with a trip to Streetly this Saturday, but Adshead will resist the temptation to make changes.

He revealed: "The Second XI are pushing for promotion from Division First 2. There are guys in the side who have played there all season and it wouldn't be right to take them out for a dead game at Streetly."

The Two's kept their title hopes alive with a 50 run success over Worcester side Old Elizabethans.

Opening bat Chris Hancox cracked 87 not out while Paul Baker was unbeaten on 56 not out as the Bank posted a target of 239 for three.

Elizabethans were then bowled out for 189, David Sewell mopping up the tail to take four for 27.

The result leaves the Bank just five points adrift of leaders Kenilworth Wardsens going into their final game at home to Walsall.
