WITH the final summer season matches now being played two Bromsgrove teams narrowly missed out on promotion.

The Ladies D team finished with a 5-1 against Ombersley C.

Ros Cooke with Lesley Hodson won both rubbers, but only after a tough three-set match with their opposite first pair.

Carol Cornelissen with Yvonne Priestman at third pair also won both encounters.

Jane Corbett and Sue Forrest opened with a win, but then lost to the Ombersley’s strongest pair.

The result left them equal on points to second placed Fladbury, and the count back showed both teams equal on rubbers won.

In the end Fladbury just took the last promotion spot by virtue of sets won.

Corbett said: “It’s been a great season with some enjoyable tennis, but the whole squad is disappointed to lose out on promotion by such a narrow margin.”

The Men’s C team took on Belbroughton B in their final match and stormed to a 6-0 win.

The result left Bromsgrove just two points off the promotion spot and four behind the Division winners.

Captain John Casey said: “After being hit by a number of injuries at the start of the season the squad has put in some great performances. We’ll be back next year.”
