BARNT Green Under-15s clinched the ECB National Championships in style and became the first team from Worcestershire to take the title as they defeated St Cross Symondians by 107 runs.

The team, who took the county and regional titles to reach the nationals, topped the national competition after 11 wins in a row.

Green headed to Rugby School and saw off Hallam in the semi-finals by 52 runs.

With England one-day captain Eoin Morgan watching, the Worcestershire side had too much firepower for their rivals from Hampshire.

Green won the toss and, after choosing to bat they produced their best display, posted an impressive 219-2 in their 20 allotted overs.

Jacques Banton (43), Harry Thompson (52), James Moody (50) and George Homer (44) were among the runs.

In reply, there were two wickets each for Hayden Froggatt, Dan Meredith and Jake Johnstone as Green bowled St Cross out for 112.

The team were presented with their winners’ medals and the trophy by limited-overs specialist Morgan, which capped a day that will be long remembered.
