BARNT Green captain Andy Sutton was pleased with his side's fighting spirit as they earned ten points in their draw with Kenilworth Wardens in the Birmingham League Premier.

The inconsistent Cherry Hill Walk outfit had a mountain to climb when their mid-table rivals made 294-9.

Despite falling short, Green's batsmen had a good go of trying to reach the target for victory as they made 258-7.

While they had to settle for a losing draw, Sutton was pleased of the positive attitude by the batting order.

He said: "Kenilworth made a good score but I think we were a bit loose in our bowling, we lost a bit of focus and it allowed them to make 294.

"I thought Tom Brown did very well taking wickets in the middle.

"We responded very well though and at one stage I thought we were in with a chance to win the game.

"Tom Banton and Matt Lamb were in great form and if they had reached triple figures it might have been a different result."

Brown (4-64) and Luke Radford (3-77) were Green's biggest wicket takers, but Kenilworth's Nick Seagar (77) and Blake Maher (53) among the runs.

Green suffered an early setback when William Baker was bowled by Brinder Phagura for seven runs.

Banton made 79 before Scott Stenning, who took 4-67, hit 79 off 112 balls and the in-form Matt Lamb also 82 before falling victim to Stenning.

Green will be aiming to build on the encouraging signs when they take on Knowle and Dorridge at home on Saturday (noon start).

The Warwickshire outfit are in fine form after winning the last three games in a row, with Alex Phillips hitting 180 in the victory over Walmley.

Sutton said: "Knowle and Dorridge have some good players and they are old rivals so there will be some edge to the game.

"We have batted well and bowled well over the season but not in the same game, if we can put both sides together we can win on Saturday."
