OMBERSLEY finished up on the wrong end of a drawn contest with Walmley after rain severely hampered their chances of a Birmingham League Premier Division win.

Walmley were only five balls into their innings when rain arrived and caused a 45 minute delay.

On resumption, Walmley went onto reach 280 for seven from a full 55 overs.

Ombersley only received 41 overs in return and required a testing 245 to obtain the winning draw.

Although Ombersley took up the chase, they lost wickets in the process which resulted with their last pair surviving one ball.

Ombersley chairman Tim Oakley admitted: "We were a couple of bowlers light as Neil Slade and Matthew Rawnsley were ruled out late through work commitments.

"We'd kept Walmley in check, but our lack of bowling depth showed as Walmley must have made 160 in the final 15 overs.

Liam Gwynne with 59 and Ed Bayliss on 47 proved the pick of Ombersley's batting.

Ombersley slip to fourth place as a result and will have their title credentials put to the test this Saturday when high flying Wolverhampton will be the visitors to Main Road.

Ombersley are without Worcestershire all rounder Brett D'Oliveira while Gareth Andrew is likely to be required by Hampshire. But Neil Slade should return to the side who will also have Josh Dell and Nick Hammond available.

England Under-19 player Dell has completed his commitments with Cheltenham College while Hammond is back from school duty with Kings Worcester.
