PAUL Smith admits he faces some tough choices when it comes to completing his Bromsgrove Sporting squad for the 2016-17 season in the Midlands Division One.

The Rouslers boss welcomed 32 players to training in the first session last Thursday, with a similar amount also turning on Saturday as well.

Smith already has 14 players nailed on for the season and is looking for another four new additions.

While players cannot be officially registered until Friday, clubs have been told they can start sending in paperwork from Tuesday night in the hope of speeding up the process.

Smith was also impressed by the fitness of his players.

He said: “I asked the lads who were with us last year to stay fit over the close season and gave them programmes to help.

“We also told the five new lads who signed they would have to come back in good shape and I am pleased to report that they have all returned fit.

“It’s not like the old days, even at our level of football it is important that players maintain their fitness over 12 months.

“The lads had the bleep test on Thursday and looked in good shape.”

He added: “We’ve had Chris Conway and Marco Adaggio attend training but I have been very impressed by the numbers we’ve had so far.

“I knew it was going to be difficult to choose from 32 players but it actually going to be even more difficult.

“I have 14 players who have agreed to sign and want a squad of 18, so it’s a difficult choice.”

Defender Mark Smith also trained with Sporting last week, although it us unclear what his situation is.

Smith played for Alvechurch last season and Lye Meadow outfit boss Ian Long has made it clear he wants to keep him.
