BROMSGROVE experienced a miserable result on Saturday as they suffered a 153 run loss to Barnards Green in the Birmingham League Division One on Saturday.

The Boars rued mistakes in the field and with the bat as their opponents made 247 and then dismissed the home side for 64.

It's been a testing campaign so far for the St Godwalds-based outfit, who have won just two of their opening eight games.

Captain Mark Evenson had won the toss and opted to field first and it appeared to be the right decision as they had reduced the visitors to 91-4.

But Barnards skipper Phil Harrison made a big impact, scoring 98 runs off 82 balls to turn the game on its head.

To make matters worse, an out of sorts Alex Wilkinson dropped Green's big-hitting captain on seven.

Jamie Tapper also hit 41 runs as Bromsgrove's rivals made 247-8.

The hosts lost wickets at regular intervals, with George Rhodes taking impressive figures of 5-10 as the Boars were finished off in 31 overs.

Evenson said: "We started quite well but dropping Phil Harrison was a key moment in the game.

"It meant they could get a big score and instead we were chasing 247 for the win.

"But it was a collectively poor display, we bowled too many balls which could be hit for boundaries.

"We lacked a bit of focus and then didn't bat well enough either, it was a disappointing day."

Bromsgrove go to Moseley next on Saturday (noon start), aiming to bounce back.

Worcestershire batsman Alexei Kervezee is set to return but Tom Hill is unavailable for the next few weeks.
